Foam filled fenders are also very often used in ship-to-ship and ship-to-quay berthing operations. They are used as alternatives to the normal pneumatic fenders. These fender are made of polyurethane elastomer skin( or rubber skin), nylon reinforcement layer and closed-cell resilient foam. The performance of foam elastomer fenders is comparable to that of a pneumatic fender, but the fenders will not lose their function in case the skin gets punctured, and they have a high degree of wear resistance.
