I A2 tool steel is an air hardened grade steel containing 5% chromium. A2 is known for its good toughness and excellent dimensional stability in heat treatment. These characteristics make it a multifunctional tool steel with good performance and price. A2 steel is somewhere between oil-hardened and D2 high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel.

A2 tool steel is usually purchased to meet chemical rather than physical requirements. Therefore, physical features are usually not provided unless requested prior to production. Any material can be sent to a third party for physical performance testing after production.

Manganese - 1.00% is the largest
Silicon -0.50% is the largest
Molybdenum - 0.90%-1.40%
Chromium - 4.75%-5.50%
Vanadium - 0.15%-.50%

* Unless otherwise stated, nickel plus copper is equal to a maximum of 0.75%. Suitable for all tool steel types.
A2 hardness after heat treatment is higher than SKD11, high temperature (500-520℃) tempering can reach 60-62HRC high hardness, in strength is more than SKD11. Twice the toughness of SKD11. A2 toughness is more prominent in cold working die steel, so that cracks and cracks rarely occur in A2 manufactured, greatly improving the service life. The residual stress after wire cutting is reduced by high temperature tempering. Therefore, the cracks and deformation of large molds and precision molds are suppressed after wire-cutting. Machinability exceeds SKD11. A2 has better machinability than SDK11. Therefore, the use of A2 can increase the die life and reduce the processing process.
