The characteristics and advantages of titanium alloys:
1. Healthy and environmentally friendly metal: Titanium does not contain harmful heavy metals, is non-toxic, and is very compatible with human tissues and blood. Therefore, it is used in the medical industry to manufacture various implanted human organs and body parts. Titanium is a non-magnetic metal that does not demagnetize even in high magnetic fields.
2. Lightweight: The density of titanium is 4.51g/cm3, which is higher than the density of aluminum (2.8/cm3) and lower than the density of steel (7.9/cm3). Although titanium is not the hardest metal, its specific strength is the highest among all metals, and titanium materials of the same volume are 40% lighter than steel.
3. Corrosion resistance: Titanium is very stable in many media, and strong acids, alkalis, and even aqua regia, known as the "king of acids," cannot corrode it. Titanium can be stored in the deep sea for 100 years without rusting at all. This is because in air or oxygen containing media, a very thin, dense, and sturdy oxide film will form on the surface of titanium. Protect it from corrosion.
4. Not afraid of extreme cold and high temperatures: Titanium has a melting point of 1668 º C, and titanium alloys can be used for a long time at high temperatures of 500 º C without fatigue. The strength of titanium increases with a decrease in temperature, but its plasticity does not change much. Pure titanium, used in extremely cold environments at -259 º C. Still able to maintain good elasticity
5. Hardness is stronger than steel: Titanium has high tensile/yield strength, which means that titanium materials are less likely to deform due to pressure or tension after forming. Titanium materials with the same volume have higher strength than other metal materials. Due to the large ratio between the yield limit of titanium and the elastic model, titanium exhibits high resilience during the forming process.
6. Good heat transfer performance: Although the thermal conductivity of titanium is lower than that of carbon steel and copper, due to its excellent corrosion resistance, the wall thickness of titanium products can be greatly reduced. In addition, the heat transfer method between the surface and steam is droplet condensation, thereby reducing thermal resistance. Non fouling on the surface of titanium can reduce thermal resistance and significantly improve its heat transfer performance.
