TPS92515 series devices are compact monolithic switching regulators integrated with low resistance N-channel metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs). This series of devices are suitable for high brightness LED lighting applications that focus on high efficiency, high bandwidth, PWM and/or analog dimming, and small size. The regulator operates with constant off time and peak current control. The working principle is very simple: after a turn off time based on the output voltage, the conduction time starts. The conduction time ends immediately after reaching the peak current threshold of the inductor.
The TPS92515 device can be configured to maintain a constant ripple peak value during the on and off time of the shunting FET dimming cycle. This is ideal for maintaining a linear response over the entire shunt FET dimming range. Steady state accuracy is guaranteed with the support of a low offset high side comparator. The LED current can be modulated using analog or PWM dimming techniques alone, or both. Other features include undervoltage lockout (UVLO), wide input voltage operation, inherent LED open circuit operation, and thermal shutdown, with a wide operating temperature range.
The operating input voltage range of TPS92515 and TPS92515-Q1 devices is up to 42V. TPS92515HV and TPS92515HV-Q1 provide high voltage options with input ranges up to 65V. All devices are heat dissipation enhanced 10 pin HVSSOP package.
