For the fire test standards of railway rolling stock materials, different countries have different test standards and methods. The European Union launched a program called Firestarr Project, which aims to study and establish a set of tests for flammability, flame propagation rate, heat release, smoke release and toxicity of railway rolling stock materials.
En45545-2 mainly focuses on the combustion performance, heat release, smoke density, toxicity and other properties of materials.En45545-2 standard materials according to the end use, divided into R1-R26 a total of 26 different categories.According to the vehicle type and operating environment, en45545-2-2013 standard divides the fire risk level into HL1, HL2 and HL3, altogether three fire risk levels.

For each hazard level, this part specifies the test methods, test conditions and reaction to fire performance requirements.It is not within the scope of this European Standard to describe measures that ensure the preservation of the vehicles in the event of o fire.
