Q690 is a quenched and tempered high-strength steel plate, while ASTM A514 is a high-strength weldable steel plate that has been quenched and tempered according to ASTM specifications. It is mainly used in places that require high tensile strength and high compliance, as well as in engineering car lifting gears and marine channel racks.
Q690 steel plate execution standard: GB/T16270-2009; The execution standard for A514 steel plate is: ASTM A514/A514M
Both Q690 and A514 steel plates should be delivered in quenched and tempered condition
A. The size, shape, weight, and allowable deviation of the steel plate should comply with the provisions of GB/T709.
B. According to the agreement between the supply and demand parties, steel plates of other sizes, shapes, and allowable deviations can be supplied.
Mechanical properties of A514 grades and grades
Surface quality of Q690 steel plate
1) The surface of the steel plate shall not have defects such as cracks, bubbles, scars, folds, and inclusions that are harmful to use. There should be no layering on the side of the steel plate. If there are surface defects mentioned above, cleaning is allowed. The cleaning depth should be calculated from the actual size of the steel plate and should not exceed half of the thickness tolerance of the steel plate. The lower limit thickness of the steel plate should be ensured. The defect cleaning area should be smooth and free of edges and corners.
2) Other defects are allowed to exist, and their depth should be calculated from the actual size of the steel plate, and should not exceed half of the allowable thickness tolerance. It should be ensured that the thickness of the steel plate at the defect location is not less than the allowable lower limit thickness of the steel plate.
3) After consultation between the supply and demand parties and specifying in the contract, welding repair is allowed for the steel plate. If welding repair is carried out after quenching and tempering treatment, quenching and tempering treatment should be carried out again.
4) After consultation between the supply and demand parties and specified in the contract, the surface quality can comply with the provisions of GB/T14977.
9. Application scope of Q690 and A514 steel plates
Q690 is suitable for electric iron towers, various types of lifting cranes, heavy-duty vehicles, oil derricks, high-temperature fans, large electric shovels, dump trucks and drilling machines, coal mine hydraulic supports, steel structures, etc.
The main purpose of ASTM A514 steel plate is to be used in places that require high tensile strength and high compliance, engineering car lifting gears, large excavators, ocean channels, etc. The thickness, chemical composition, and function of A514 steel plates of different grades vary. But the mechanical properties specified in ASTM A514 are generally similar to the Q690 class in China.
