In the past, soap and soda ash were used to wash hair. Synthetic detergents have been widely used since the 1960s. Synthetic detergent has good wetting, emulsification, decontamination, solubilization and foaming properties in washing, and is better than soap in resisting hard water and less damage to fibers at high temperature. In order to prevent alkali damage to wool, non-ionic synthetic detergent can be used and salt, sodium sulfate as auxiliary, called neutral wool washing. When using synthetic detergent to wash hair, adding ammonium sulfate as auxiliary, called ammonium alkali washing hair. Ammonium sulfate plays a neutralizing role in the washing solution to prevent alkali damage to wool, and the ammonia generated can saponify fatty acids, which is conducive to the durability of the washing effect. In wool washing solution, lotion wetted wool, to dissolve and sheep sweat and soluble impurities, lanolin free fatty acid in the saponification, saponification of lanolin, alcohol and not dissolve in water were surrounded by a lotion and adsorption dirt gently, under the effect of temperature and mechanical split, broken, emulsion become colloidal particle separation with wool, steady suspended in solution, so as to achieve the aim of clean wool.

The opening washing and drying machine is composed of three parts: opening, washing and drying. The main function of the wool washing part is to remove lanolin, sheep sweat and sand impurities. The number of slots of the wool washing machine depends on the quality of the wool washed, the amount of fat sweat and soil impurity. Rinse with clean water in tank 4 and 5. The wool in the washing tank is driven by the washing rake, so this machine is called rake washing machine. The wool out of the final wash tank pressure roller still contains about 40% moisture, and is sent to the drying part for drying, so that the net wool meets the specified moisture return requirements. The drying part adopts circular net drum dryer, generally composed of 3~6 circular net drums, using hot air convection heat transfer to achieve the purpose of drying wool, can also use a single curtain type multiple heating dryer. The washing process has a great relationship with the quality of washing wool. In addition to the selection of lotion, the concentration of lotion, the temperature of lotion and the water used for washing wool also have an impact. To wash the raw hair containing more fat, the dosage of lotion should be increased compared with the washing with less fat; Lanolin containing more alcohols is difficult to wash, it is necessary to increase the amount of lotion, the temperature of lotion should be higher than the melting point of lanolin. For the refractory lanolin whiskers, the washing liquid temperature is increased, but the temperature is too high, which will cause the wool to produce felt, yellowing and rough feeling. The general washing temperature is 45~55℃. Neutral wool washing because the use of synthetic lotion will not damage the wool, can be appropriate to increase the temperature of the lotion, generally with 48~60℃. Apply soft water to wash hair, otherwise it will consume more lotion.
