Pulp and paper industry	Lignin removal agent
Water treatment	Oxygen scavenger agent.
Photographic industry	To protect developer solutions from oxidation and (as hypo clear solution) to wash fixer (sodium thiosulfate) from film and photo-paper emulsions.
Textile industry	Bleaching, desulfurizing and dechlorinating agent
Chemical manufacturing	Sulfonation and sulfomethylation agent. It is used in the production of sodium thiosulfate.
Leather trade	The sulfitization of tanning extracts
Other applications	l froth flotation of ores l oil recovery l food preservatives l making dyes l It is used in the purification of TNT for military use.
