直流电动汽车充电桩俗称“快充”，它固定安装在电动汽车外部，连接到交流电网。
交流电动汽车充电桩，俗称“慢充”，是固定安装在电动汽车外部并连接到交流电网的电源装置，为电动汽车车载充电器（即固定安装在电动汽车上的充电器）提供交流电源。
交流充电桩只在控制电源方面发挥作用。简单来说，交流充电桩需要用车载充电器充电，而不需要直流充电桩。两者的充电速度是完全不同的。纯电动汽车（普通电池容量）完全放电后，通过交流充电桩完全充电需要8个小时，而直流快速充电桩只需要1-3个小时。
未来，新能源汽车的充电趋势将主要基于直流充电桩的布局。交流充电桩的时间太长。直流快充桩可以为车主实现快充，不仅节省了大量的出行时间，也降低了大多数车主的成本。汽车有麻烦，增强了体验。
