Cultivating machinery mainly refers to machinery used for weeding, loosening soil, breaking hardening of surface soil, cultivating soil and ridging the soil, or completing th above operations while fertilizing during the growth period of crops. It includes comprehensive cultivators, inter-row cultivators and special cultivators. The comprehensive cultivator is used for seed bed preparation operations including land preparation before sowing, fallow land management, and blending of fertilizers and chemicals. The inter-row cultivating operations of crops include loosening the soil, breaking the compaction of topsoil, thinning seedlings, weeding, top dressing, and cultivating soil between rows. Some special cultivators are used for special operations in orchards, tea gardens, and rubber gardens.
The purpose of a cultivator is to turn and break up the soil, either before planting (to aerate the soil and prepare a flat, loose seedbed) or after the crop has begun to grow (to kill weeds - right Controlled turning of topsoil near crops, uprooting surrounding weeds to kill them, or burying their leaves in the soil to disrupt their photosynthesis, or a combination of the two). Unlike a tiller, which turns the entire soil surface, a cultivator is designed to turn the soil in a careful manner, protecting crop plants and destroying weeds.
