Product Description 1. Overview of the Production Process

- Pulping: Sugarcane bagasse is first collected as a by - product of the sugar - making process. The bagasse is then pulped. There are different pulping methods, such as chemical pulping and semi - chemical pulping. In chemical pulping, chemicals like sodium hydroxide (for alkaline pulping) are used to break down the lignin and other non - cellulose components of the bagasse. The process usually takes place in a digester at elevated temperatures and pressures to facilitate the chemical reactions.
- Washing and Bleaching: After pulping, the pulp needs to be thoroughly washed to remove the chemicals and impurities. A washing system with multiple stages of filters or washing drums is used. For writing and printing papers, bleaching is also an important step. Bleaching agents such as hydrogen peroxide or chlorine dioxide (in more environmentally - friendly processes) are used to increase the whiteness of the pulp.
- Refining: The washed and bleached pulp is then refined. Refining machines with rotating discs or cones are used to fibrillate the cellulose fibers. This improves the fiber - to - fiber bonding, resulting in a stronger and smoother paper. The refining process also helps in adjusting the drainage characteristics of the pulp.
- Paper - making: The refined pulp is then made into paper on a paper - making machine. The pulp slurry is spread onto a wire - mesh conveyor belt (Fourdrinier wire). As water drains through the wire, the fibers bond together to form a wet paper web. The web is then pressed and dried to reduce its moisture content.
