Expanded metal is often referred to as diamond punched, stretched metal or security mesh. Due to its method of manufacture, expanded metal is one of the most economical steel mesh, or grating material, on the market.
Expanded Metal is produced from solid sheets or plates of carbon, galvanized and stainless steel, as well as aluminum and a variety of alloys of copper, nickel, silver, titanium and other metals. Because expanded metal is made from a solid sheet of metal, and it is not woven or welded - it can never unravel.
Expanded metal is commonly used to guard entry to an area or object or as a barrier, but still allow the free passing of liquids and gases. It can be purchased online and at Dongjie location. It can be cut to your exact specifications.
Expanded metal sheets come in two common types: raised and flattened. Raised sheets have wavy ridges throughout, whereas flattened sheet are truly flat.
Flattened Expanded metal is manufactured by passing the raised expanded sheet through a cold roll reducing mill. This turns the strands and bonds down to provide a flattened surface, reducing the thickness (gauge) and elongating the pattern. Expanded Grating is milled in a similar manner to expanded metal.

The shearing and stretching of the expanding process creates strands and bonds that are set at a uniform angle to the plane on the sheet. This adds strength and rigidity to the material, while providing a directional skid-resistant surface.
