The basic operation of a water flow switch depends on the interaction between a magnet fitted on the floater that is immersed in the main water flow and a switch sensor. The switch sensor is mounted on the housing of the flow switch.
A water flow switch is a mechanical and electrical assembly that is primarily used in hydraulic systems. Water flow switches send an electrical signal at a specific flow rate. The switch system fits into the fluid system in such a manner that water flows through it when the system is in operation and the trigger gun valve is open.
The water flow moves a magnet, and the magnet then holds a reed switch closed when the water is flowing. When the flow of water stops, the magnet pulls away from the reed switch, which causes it to open, breaking the electrical circuit. The flow switch is made up of three main components, including the metal body, the magnet and the reed switch.
The operation of a flow switch revolves around the action of the magnet that travels freely along the fluid handling portion of its metal housing. The magnet has a hole that allows the water to flow through it. The size of the hole and the gap between the magnet sides and the valve body determines the amount of water flow required to lift the magnet.
