Electrical steel (lamination steel, silicon electrical steel, silicon steel, relay steel, transformer steel) is a special steel tailored to produce specific magnetic properties: small hysteresis area resulting in low power loss per cycle, low core loss, and high permeability.
Electrical steels are essential for the electromagnetic machines that power our world. Electrical steel sheets are used as magnetic cores for everything from power generators to transformers to motors. Efficient electrical steels are essential to modern life.
Power generation is the transformation of mechanical energy into electricity from various types of turbines. The energy created is immediately fed into large power transformers to increase the voltage for efficient transmission of energy over long distances. Nearer to their destination, medium power transformers and local distribution transformers lower the voltage for safe use.

What is Electrical Steel?
Electrical steel, also known as silicon steel, is a steel alloy of iron and silicon used to make the cores of motors, transformers, and generators. This softer type of steel can generate various magnetic properties and has high permeability and low amounts of core loss. It has a small hysteresis curve, meaning reduced magnetic hysteresis as well as iron losses, or energy loss.
There are two kinds of structures for electrical steel; grain-oriented and non-oriented.
Cold Rolled Electrical Steel has been manufacturing cold-rolled electrical steel for more than 30 years. We produce cold rolled grain-oriented sheets (CRGO) called also transformer sheets. They are made from 3% silicon steel.
Four grades of CRGO sheets are produced in Stalprodukt:
M3 (0.23mm), M4 (0.27mm), M5 (0.30mm), M6 (0.35mm).
We also produce toroidal cores coiled transformer sheets.
The process of laser scratching allows for a significant, durable improvement of the electrical steel strips' magnetic parameters through the reduction of their core loss.
Electrical steel, also known as silicon steel, is an indispensable soft magnetic alloy in electric, electronic and military industries. It is also the largest metal functional material in production. It is mainly used as the iron core of various motors, generators, and transformers. Its production technology is complex, manufacturing technology is strict, and foreign production technology is protected by patented form, which is regarded as the life of an enterprise. The manufacturing technology and product quality of electrical steel sheets are important signs to measure the level of special steel production and technology development in a country. At present, the number, quality, and specifications of cold rolled electrician steel in China can not meet the needs of the development of the energy (electric power) industry. There is a big gap in production technology, equipment, management, and scientific research, compared with Japan.
Grain-oriented electrical steel has a uniform, consistent direction of grains in its structure which allows for greater flux density and magnetic saturation. Most commonly, grain-oriented electrical steel is used for transformers that have a predictable and specific magnetic field direction.
