WHAT IS THE DIFFERECE FOR PB vs OSB vs MDF?
Particleboard, OSB(oriented particle board) and MDF (Medium density board) are common wood-based artificial panels that differ in their manufacturing processes, properties and applications. Here are the differences and differences:
Particle board
- Manufacturing process: The wood or other wood fiber materials are crushed into fine particles, and hot pressed after adding an adhesive.
- Structure : uniform particle distribution, no specific direction.
- Density: Low, usually between 0.6-0.8 g/cm³.
- Strength: low, susceptible to moisture deformation.
- Surface treatment : Veneer or finish required.
- Application: Furniture, interior decoration, packaging, etc.
OSB (Oriented Strand Board)
- Manufacturing process : The wood is cut into thin slices, arranged in a directional manner and then hot pressed with adhesive.
- Structure : The sheets are arranged in a specific direction, usually the outer layer is lengthwise and the inner layer is transverse.
- Density: High, about 0.6-0.7g /cm³.
- Strength: high, good bending and tensile performance, moisture resistance is better than ordinary particle board.
- Surface treatment: Usually used directly, can also be veneer.
- Application : Building structure, roof, floor, wall panel, etc.
MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard)
- Manufacturing process: Wood or other plant fibers are crushed into fine fibers and hot-pressed after adding adhesives.
- Structure: Fiber distribution is uniform, no specific direction.
- Density: High, usually between 0.6-0.8 g/cm³.
- Strength: high, good bending and compressive performance, but poor moisture resistance.
- Surface treatment: Smooth surface, suitable for veneer, coating and engraving.
- Applications: furniture, door panels, decorative lines, audio equipment, etc.
