Product Description
Sodium sulfide (Na2S) is an inorganic salt with the chemical formula Na2S, usually in the form of Na2S-9H2O nonahydrate. Both the anhydrous and nonaqueous forms are colorless and soluble solids that are strongly alkaline when hydrolyzed in aqueous solution. When exposed to air, sodium sulfide emits a toxic hydrogen sulfide gas with the odor of rotten eggs. Sodium sulfide is also known as stinky soda, stinky soda, yellow soda, sulfuric soda. Sodium sulfide is an inorganic compound, pure sodium sulfide is a colorless crystalline powder. It is highly hygroscopic and easily soluble in water. The aqueous solution is strongly alkaline reaction. Industrial sodium sulfide contains impurities and its color is pink, brownish red, earthy yellow.
In the textile industry, it is used to produce sulfur dyes, which are used to color the fibers. In the leather industry, it is also used to remove hair from leather and to soften leather. In the paper industry, it is used as a pulping agent. In the mining industry, it is used to extract copper and other metals from ore.
